Atostek to conduct study on improving data use in transport network planning
Atostek has won the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s tender for a preliminary study on developing the data foundation used in transport network planning. The project will begin in February 2026 and continues Atostek’s long-term collaboration with organisations operating in the transport and infrastructure sector.
Planning of the transport network relies on a broad data base, including traffic volumes, asset condition data, environmental factors and long-term development needs. However, this information is often scattered across multiple systems and stored in different formats, which makes it difficult to form a comprehensive overview and to use the data effectively in planning and decision-making. At the same time, requirements for data accuracy, interoperability and predictive use are increasing.
The preliminary study will examine how the data used in transport network planning can be utilised more effectively and systematically. The work includes mapping the current state through expert interviews and a review of existing data sources. Based on this, key gaps will be identified and a direction for further development, along with concrete next steps, will be defined.
The assignment requires both strong information systems expertise and an understanding of practical transport network planning. Atostek has extensive experience in developing complex public-sector system environments and in assessing data foundations from both technical and operational perspectives. The study will be carried out in close cooperation with the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
The project further strengthens Atostek’s role in delivering and developing demanding, societally significant information systems. In summer 2025, Atostek also won Fintraffic’s tender concerning the operation and maintenance of road traffic information systems.
