Faster and more accurate recognition of road surface damages
The task was to recognise and measure road surface damage automatically from a vehicle driving at normal traffic speed with higher accuracy than before.
Atostek developed a Machine Vision application in which the road surface conditions are monitored by camera installed on a moving vehicle. The applied Machine Vision technology is capable to detect and differentiate cracks and other damage from the ordinary background surface objects. In just three work months, a new efficient algorithm was developed and the image processing software was developed.
The road surface damage recognition speed improved significantly by means of Machine Vision. The road surface damage can now be detected accurately and automatically by driving a car equipped with the measuring system at normal speeds.
