Summer at Atostek: Real projects, learning new things, and working together
Summer has brought new faces to Atostek as this year’s summer employees have started their work. Stepping into a new work environment has meant plenty of new things to learn, but also rewarding experiences and enjoyable everyday moments as part of the work community.
Hilla Paasio works at Atostek’s Espoo office. She is in her third year of studying computer science at Aalto University and says she has known for a long time that she wanted to become a Master of Science in Technology. She first got to know Atostek through recruitment fairs.
Leevi Leino, in turn, works at Atostek’s Jyväskylä office. He studies computer science at the University of Jyväskylä and is currently in the master’s phase of his studies. Atostek was already a familiar name to him through recruitment fairs as well as its proximity to the university campus, so the company had stayed on his mind when he started thinking about a summer job.
Real responsibilities in real projects
During their first weeks, both Hilla and Leevi have been able to get involved in real project work. Hilla has been working on a healthcare customer project and says the tasks have been challenging in a positive way.
Leevi works on Atostek ID in software development tasks. So far, his work has included software development as well as updating documentation. As the summer progresses, he is especially looking forward to taking on an even wider variety of tasks.
Both say that getting started at Atostek has been easy.
“Starting a new job naturally felt exciting beforehand, but once I got going, it has been nice to come to work. The first few weeks have strengthened the feeling that this field is the right one for me,” Hilla says.
Leevi describes how he has been made to feel part of the team from the very beginning.
“A lot of care and attention has gone into onboarding. That created a welcoming feeling right from the start,” Leevi says.
The sense of community is also present in the small moments during the workday. Hilla mentions coffee breaks and relaxed conversations as a great way to get to know colleagues better. For Leevi, one particularly enjoyable experience was visiting the Tampere office, where he had the chance to meet the whole team in person.
Learning and finding direction for the future
A summer job brings not only experience, but also perspective on one’s own field.
“Any job in your own field is useful for your future career, but what feels especially valuable is getting a closer look at which areas of computer science I might want to focus on in the future,” Hilla summarizes.
“This summer has already broadened my understanding of the field. The experience has helped me see software work from a new angle and build a more versatile understanding of how things are done in real working life,” Leevi adds.
Both are looking forward to learning more during the summer, taking on new tasks, and gaining practical experience that will help clarify their future direction.
Hilla describes the summer so far as a very positive experience and says that the other employees also give the impression that they genuinely enjoy working here. Leevi sums up his experience simply: he has enjoyed being here.
When asked what they would say to students considering applying for a summer job at Atostek, their message is clear: it is definitely worth applying.
