New detector layer succesfully inserted to LHC at CERN
On 7th May 2014, a new detector called Insertable B-Layer (IBL) was successfully inserted to the Atlas detector experiment on Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. IBL is an additional pixel layer capable of detecting elementary particles present in hadron collisions. The aim of the experiment is to seek new knowledge on the particle physics and get evidence to support theoretical models.
– The MC fellows of the TALENT project made many substantial contributions to the IBL and to yesterday’s success. They have been involved in all major parts of the detector construction: the test of detector modules, the construction of IBL detector staves, the engineering of mechanical structures and tools for installation, the test and now commissioning of readout electronics, and, in particular for ATOSTEK, of course the design and development of optimized real-time data processing of its data. So the contributions of TALENT are large and visible in many different areas, says Dr. Heinz Pernegger, the scientific leader of the TALENT project.
