How Cambio COSMIC entered the Finnish market with Atostek ERA at record speed
The introduction of foreign electronic health record (EHR) systems in Finland has traditionally been a time-consuming and demanding process. However, the integration of the Cambio COSMIC system was completed at record speed when Atostek’s ERA service efficiently and securely resolved the technical and regulatory challenges.
Finland’s healthcare information system landscape is among the most tightly regulated in Europe. All patient information systems must meet strict technical, data security, and functional requirements, and must also be integrated with the national Kanta services. As a result, the deployment of new systems tends to be both complex and time-intensive.
Because of these stringent requirements, bringing international systems to Finland is rarely fast or straightforward. This proved to be a significant challenge when Swedish company Cambio wanted to introduce its well-known Cambio COSMIC EHR to the Finnish market.
ERA service enables record-speed market launch
Atostek’s ERA service was chosen as the solution, enabling COSMIC to connect with Finland’s national information systems without requiring Cambio to modify its core product. Atostek also designed and implemented the COSMIC Connector, which leverages the patient information system’s existing interfaces. The COSMIC Connector collects patient data, transforms it into the formats required by national standards, and passes it to the ERA service, which then delivers the data to the Kanta services.
By outsourcing the integration work to Atostek, COSMIC was deployed rapidly and securely in the Finnish environment, without the need for extensive development projects.
Thanks to this collaboration, Cambio did not have to undergo the lengthy joint testing process that new systems typically require—a process that can last up to three years. By utilizing the ERA service, the integration could be carried out much faster and without additional development work.

Implementation in Åland highlights collaboration and reliability
Ålands hälso- och sjukvård (ÅHS) was the first in Finland to implement the COSMIC system, and the rollout proceeded even faster than anticipated. The project was a significant entry for Cambio into the Finnish market, and it served as evidence of the flexibility and reliability of the ERA service.
