Sweden’s most widely used patient information system deployed in Åland – Atostek enabled integration with Finland’s national services
The Åland healthcare system has successfully implemented Cambio COSMIC, Sweden’s most widely used patient information system. The integration into Finland’s national social and healthcare infrastructure was carried out in close cooperation between Atostek and Cambio. The deployment proceeded even better than expected and marks the first implementation of its kind in Finland.
Atostek and Cambio combined their expertise
Atostek was responsible for integrating the system with Finland’s national healthcare services and assisting Cambio in meeting Finland’s strict regulatory and data security requirements. The deployment utilized Atostek’s ERA service, which enabled electronic prescriptions and the archiving of vaccination data in Finland’s national Kanta Services.
“With our ERA service, any patient information system can be adapted to the Finnish national model cost-effectively and in full compliance with regulations,” says Sampo Ojala, Account Manager at Atostek.
Kanta Services expanding in Åland
On September 26, 2025, the Government of Åland decided to propose the broader adoption of Finland’s Kanta Services beyond electronic prescriptions.
This historic decision will make it possible, for example, to store patient record entries in Kanta directly from Åland. The change will improve the flow of patient information and strengthen cooperation between Åland and other healthcare organizations.
“This will enhance patient care and enable better treatment,” says Dan Gustafsson, Chief Surgeon at ÅHS (Ålands hälso- och sjukvård).
Successful deployment through close collaboration
The deployment of the Cambio COSMIC system in Åland proceeded smoothly and without major issues.
“The implementation went even better than anticipated. All parties were highly committed to making it a success. We solved challenges together with Atostek, and that cooperation was a decisive factor in achieving such a smooth deployment,” says Johan Thorwid from Cambio.
